An early version: it keeps improving, but expect rough edges.

Available features

One wolf, many furs

Which fur will you wear today? Each has its own name, avatar, bio, friends and chats. Change it from the menu in a tap. The fur you are currently using decides how others see you.

  • Up to 5 furs per account
  • Add friends by a short tag: no phone number, no contact upload
  • To other users, different furs look like completely independent accounts
  • Only you can see all the furs that belong to you, as badges for unread chats and requests

Chats for every situation

Direct chats, private groups with roles, and public groups you can browse and join. LiveChat is a lively open channel for talking to everyone who is online too.

  • Reply to, edit and delete your messages
  • Group admins, roles, group photos and descriptions
  • Search public groups and join in one tap

Photos, files, voice messages and stickers

Share more than text. Photos and videos arrive as albums, large uploads resume if your connection drops, and stickers make a conversation livelier.

  • Albums of up to 10 photos or videos, with a caption
  • Files and voice messages
  • Sticker packs you can browse, add and reorder

Voice and video calls

Call a friend one to one, with audio or video. Calls go through a relay server by default, so your network address stays hidden unless you and the other side both allow a direct connection.

  • Rings on your Android phone even when the app is closed
  • Call back from the conversation in a tap
  • Answer as the fur that was called

Built for slow, patchy connections

The app keeps what you have opened on your device, so it starts instantly and stays useful when the network does not.

  • Chats open from a local cache, even offline
  • Messages written offline are sent when you are back online
  • Data-saver settings for photo and video downloads
  • Push notifications on Android and in the browser

Web and Android, dark and light

Use it in any modern browser with nothing to install. The Android app is in testing. Both follow your system theme, or you can choose.

  2. Create an accountA login, an email address and a password.
  3. Add a second furOpen Furs, create another one and change between them freely.

What we can and cannot promise

Privacy claims should be easy to check, so here is the plain version.

What it does

  • Connections are encrypted in transit (HTTPS and secure WebSockets).
  • Other people cannot link your different furs to the same account.
  • Calls use a relay by default, so your network address is not shown to the other side.
  • The Android app keeps its local database encrypted on the phone.
  • There are no ads, no trackers and no payments.

What it does not do

  • Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. The server stores them in readable form, so the person running the server could technically read them.
  • It runs on a small server: there is no uptime guarantee, so keep a copy of anything important.
  • Different furs can still be linked to one account if you give away hints through your own behavior.

The privacy policy explains what is stored and for how long.

Testers wanted

The Android app is almost ready for Google Play, which asks for a group of testers before an app can be published. You can start right now with the web app and help from there.

This website collects no tester data: everything happens inside the messenger.

  1. Open the web app and create an accountIt takes about a minute.
  2. Join the “Blep Android Tests” groupOpen Groups, search for “Blep Android Tests” and join.
  3. Say hello and tell us what you triedReport what broke or felt wrong, with your device and browser if you can.

Using Android?

Say so in the group, then send your Google account email in a private message, never in the group. We will invite you to the closed test on Google Play.

Questions and answers

Is this messenger free?

Yes. There are no ads, no subscriptions and no payments.

Who can read my messages?

Messages are encrypted between your device and the server, so nobody on the network can read them. They are not end-to-end encrypted: the server stores them in readable form, so the person running the server could technically read them. The lack of end-to-end encryption is mainly for technical reasons: it is a more complex solution, needs an adapted architecture and brings risks of its own, so it was not implemented in the basic version of the messenger. What are furs and why that name?

The fur is a thematic nod to the wolf that is the logo of our project. In the messenger, furs act as separate profiles or accounts and let you decide how others see you.

Why different furs?

Being able to create many furs lets you keep contacts apart without juggling several accounts: a work persona, a hobby community, a private circle. This makes it easy and comfortable to stay in touch with anyone, without having to reveal all of your data. Today messengers often reveal a lot about their users, such as online activity, current status, apps in use, phone number and much more. Privacy settings partly solve this, but the account is still usually clearly identified. With many furs you can give a completely different contact to a random person from the internet and another to a close friend, so your privacy stays protected and you can still keep in touch with people you do not know well.

Does the messenger work offline?

Chats you have opened are kept on your device, so you can read them offline, and messages you write offline are sent when you reconnect. New messages and calls need an internet connection.

Which devices are supported?

Any modern browser, on a computer or a phone. The Android app is being tested and is not on Google Play yet. There is no iOS app at the moment.

Can the messenger go down?

It runs on a small server as a hobby project, so there is no uptime guarantee. Maintenance and outages can happen.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings, then Delete account. The privacy policy describes what happens to your data afterwards.
